Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced a cash prize of Rs 6.5 million to Palesha Goverdan, who got a historic bronze medal in the Para Olympics held in Paris.

PM Oli honored athlete Palesha at a function organized at his official residence, Baluwatar, and announced the cash prize on Wednesday. He congratulated her and extended best wishes.

Palesha had secured the bronze medal by defeating a rival from Serbia by 15-8 points in the under-57 kg woman category of taekwondo K-44.

She is the first player in Nepali history to secure a medal in the Paralympics.

On the occasion, PM Oli observed, "As Nepali players participate in the international games, all Nepalis expect their achievement and excellence."

According to him, Palesha's victory is Nepal's victory. "I've been saying that once Nepalis get a chance, they certainly make achievements. It was not simply Nepal's presence in the Para Olympics this time but Nepal's compelling performance, which elated all of us," he remarked.

The PM also encouraged the players to continue excellence to make further records in sports. Our campaign for achievements has kicked off, according to him.

Also honored on the occasion were the coach, manager, and other players.
