Nepal has proposed the evening of the day Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reaches New York as the time for the meeting with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Oli, leading a delegation, is flying to New York on September 20 to attend the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations. Oli will land in New York on September 22.
The Summit of the Future to be organized by the United Nations will start on the same day (Sunday). Modi will reach New York to attend this summit. He will stay one night in New York.
It is learnt that Modi will fly to New York after attending a QUAD meeting (Japan-Australia, India and US) to be held in Wellington, America.
Nepal has proposed for the meeting with Modi on the day he lands in New York.
"The meeting between Prime Minister Oli and Indian Prime Minister Modi has been proposed for September 22 at 5 pm (local time)," the sources said, "This time has been proposed since Modi will stay only that nigh in New York."
Despite Nepal's proposal, Indian side has not confirmed reading the meeting between Oli and Modi.
Even though it's been almost two months since Oli was appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal, New Delhi has not invited him till date, arousing doubt about the Oli-Modi meeting in New York.
There is a tradition to invite the head of the government once the government changes in Nepal.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana during her recent India visit had handed over a written invitation to Modi for a Nepal visit. But, Modi has not confirmed when he will visit Nepal nor has he invited Oli for an India visit.
