An Indian truck driver, who sustained critical injuries in the arson attack carried out by medical professional Durga Prasain, has passed away.
Forty-year-old Pada Raya, the truck driver of Chhapra Uttar Dinajpur, who sustained critical injuries in the arson attack, died in the course of treatment, the police said.
Raya sustained injuries when the irate cadres set ablaze the truck, W 73 E 3056, in Jhapa being driven by Raya during the Jhapa banda called by Prasain on September 23.
The agitating cadres had set a fire to the Indian truck at Birtamod-6, near Giribandhu Tea Estate on East West Highway.
After preliminary treatment at B and C hospital, he had been referred to North Bengal Medical College where he breathed his last.
The kin of the deceased had staged a demonstration by displaying the body of Raya on the Asian Highway near Kankad Bhitta on Sunday evening.
The body has been taken to Provincial Hospital, Bhadrapur, in coordination with the Nepal and India police, Jhapa District Hospital said.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested eight cadres of Durga Prasain in connection with the arson attack and forwarded a case against them on the charge of crime and attempted murder.
