Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has stated that the Nepali people should not suffer any hardships due to the foreign policy adopted by our country.
In an interview with News Agency Nepal on Friday, Minister Rana said our two giant neighbors are equally important to Nepal from every point of view.
Recalling the adage, 'Nepal is sandwiched between two giant rocks' as said by Prithvi Narayan Shah during the period of unification, she made it clear that she is not for aligning with one nation, severing ties with the other.
"We should remain neutral – avoiding alliances either with northern or southern neighbors. This is our foreign policy. Our relations with either of the countries is led by our foreign policy. Nepali people should not suffer from our foreign policies, regardless of geography they are living in currently."
On a different note, Minister Rana said she went to visit India and is ready to go to China if invited.
"Even though I have not visited China, I have met with the Foreign Minister of China following the visit with the Prime Minister of India. The meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister was quite cordial," she said, "China is equally important country for us. Both the countries have supported us in times of adversity. Our relationship is friendly with both the countries. I will absolutely visit China if invited."
We should maintain friendly relations with all the countries that extend support to make our country prosperous, happy and independent, Minister Rana asserted.
"Whoever extends support to us to be prosperous, happy and live independently, they are our friends. We should maintain cordial ties with such nations by adhering to our policy of non-alignment," she said.
