The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), a regulatory body in Nepal, has penalized a Thai AirAsia airbus for entering into the Nepali airspace without prior authorization.

The Thai AirAsia Airbus, en route to Kathmandu from Thailand, was held in Nepali airspace for an hour before receiving clearance to land at Tribhuvan International Airport.

According to Gyanendra Bhul, the spokesman at the CAAN, the flight of Thai AirAsia has been suspended for the time being. Similarly, the General Sales Agent (GSA), the authorized agent of Nepal, has also been canceled.

Spokesman Bhul further said that the Thai AirAsia airbus was allowed to land at TIA under a 'special charted' flight permit as its regular permit expired on Saturday.

"A security issue may arise if the flight is held in the sky for a long time," The special chartered flight permit was granted to the airbus and was allowed to land at the TIA considering the passengers' security and humanity," Bhul said, "All the permits including GSA have been canceled for the time being."

The airbus which received the special charted flight permit is flying back to Bangkok with passengers onboard today itself, the airport office has said.  Thai AirAsia airbus had taken the flight permit only until October 26.

The CAAN took the action against the airbus after it landed at the TIA without permit.

Meanwhile, the CAAN has made public a flight schedule effective from October 27 2024 to March 31, 2025.
