Death toll in Darchula jeep accident climbs to 8

The death toll in the Darchula jeep accident has reached eight after two more injured succumbed to their injuries. The other four passengers have been injured, the police said.

The deceased are Indian nationals Mohammad Safir, 45, Mohammad Basim, 18, from the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh, Dilip Bista, 45, and Mina Lekhak, 40, of Shailya Shikhar Municipality-9, Darchula, Birendra Rawal, 30, and Shanti Rawal, 28, of Shailya Shikhar Municipality-5, Sudip Bohara, 15, and Birendra Bohra, 50, of Dilashaini Rural Municipality-5, Baitadi.

According to Police Inspector Chhatra Bahadur Rawal of the District Police Office, Darchula, four people were injured in the jeep accident. The injured are Sandeep Rawal, 8, of Lekgaun, Shailya Shikhar Municipality-5, jeep driver Sunil Joshi, 30, of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-8, Pasti, Uttam Rokaya, 28, of Dilashaini Rural Municipality-5, Baitadi, and Sohin Shah, 17, of Pilibhit Marudanda, India.

The condition of the jeep driver Joshi, who suffered a head injury, is critical. The others are moderately injured. They are being treated at Gokuleshwor Hospital, according to the police.

Police have informed that Prakash Rawal, who was slightly injured, has been discharged after treatment.

The jeep (Ma 1 Ja 338) heading to Gokuleshwor from Malikarjun met with an accident this morning at Bakjebla, Shailya Shikhar Municipality-6.

There were 13 passengers in the jeep. The passengers were returning from after attending a religious fair at Malikarjun Temple in Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3 when the jeep fell some 150 meters off the road.
