Ruling CPN (UML) has filed Surendra Manandhar as a candidate for the post mayor in Kirtipur Municipality.
UML leader Manandhar filed his nomination for the post amidst a rally participated by other leaders and cadres after reaching the election's office a while ago.
The post of mayor has been lying vacant after late Mayor Raj Kumar Nakarmi of Nepali Congress passed away due to kidney-related ailment.
Similarly, Harsha Maharjan and Badri Budhathoki have filed their candidacies for chairs of Ward 1 and Ward 4 of the municipality, respectively, representing UML.
Candidates from various political parties are filing their nominations for 44 different positions including two chiefs of district coordination committees, one mayor, one deputy mayor, two chairpersons of rural municipalities and four vice chairpersons in the upcoming by-election today.
