US Assistant Secretary of Sate Donald Lu has held a meeting with former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Lu, who arrived on a two-day visit to Nepal, reached Maoist Chairman Prachanda's residence in Khumaltar for a meeting.
The Nepal visit of Lu, who looks after the South and Central Asian Affairs, has raised concerns among the diplomatic circle at a time when Nepal has recently signed the Chinese project Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation Frame Work and the American project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has not gained momentum as expected.
During his Nepal visit, the US diplomat is also scheduled to meet with top Nepali leaders including CPN (Maoist Center) Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, it is learnt.
During the meeting, he will hold discussions on environmental conservation including cultural heritages, women empowerment and sustainable development as well as the vivid aspects of the Nepal-US relations, the sources have said.
Lu arrived in Nepal this morning after visiting Sri Lanka and India.
