Former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who is doing time in custody for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of cooperative funds, has been taken to Birgunj for investigation.
He was brought to Kathmandu from Pokhara by a flight earlier in the day and then flown to Simara from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). He was taken to Birgunj by a vehicle from Simara, the police said.
Rabi will be interrogated on the embezzlements of funds from Sano Paila cooperative, Birgunj on Tuesday. Former DIG Chhabilal Banjade, one of the business partners of Rabi, was taken to Birgunj on Sunday itself. His statements were recorded today. The police have already taken permission from the court to investigate these two accused.
Rastriya Swatantra Party President Lamichhane is undergoing investigations on funds embezzlement of five cooperatives including Pokhara-based Suryadarshan, an organized crime and money laundering.
Lamichhane was arrested on October 18 in Kathmandu for investigation into his alleged involvement into the embezzlements of funds from Suryadarshan cooperative and whisked to the District Police Office, Pokhara the same day.
Prior to this, the police recorded his statements on Sarwalakshmi cooperative in Kathmandu, Sahara in Chitwan and Supreme Cooperative in Butwal.
