Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba held a meeting with Mr Wopke Hoekstra, Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth at the European Commission on Thursday.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Rana and Commissioner Hoekstra discussed various facets of Nepal-EU relations, focusing on climate change, the development of Nepal's clean energy sector, and Nepal's pivotal role in the mountain agenda, the Foreign Ministry said.
"During the meeting, we discussed the various aspects of Nepal-EU relations, focusing on climate change, the development of Nepal’s clean energy, and Nepal’s leadership on the mountain agenda. I also called for the EU’s continued support for funding, technology transfer, and capacity-building for mitigation and adaptation efforts," reads the X message posted by the Foreign Ministry.
Earlier on December 10, Minister Rana met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel of Luxembourg in Luxembourg on Tuesday.
During the meeting at his office in Luxembourg City, various aspects of Nepal-Luxembourg relations as well as mutual interests, and cooperation were discussed. The two leaders also dwelled on Nepal's development priorities and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Rana left for The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on December 7, leading a Nepali delegation to raise the issue of climate change impact in Nepal and the compensation Nepal should access.
Minister Rana has been raising the issue of the impact of carbon emission by rich and developed countries as well as the compensation that Nepal should get entitled to receive due to their higher share.
The delegation led by Minister Dr Rana comprises Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Udaya Raj Sapkota and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
