The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen regional cooperation in sustainable energy.

The agreement was signed by SAARC Secretary-General Md. Golam Sarwar and IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera in Abu Dhabi on January 11, 2025.

This partnership aims to accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources across the South Asian region by facilitating knowledge exchange, capacity building, and the execution of joint projects. By leveraging their respective strengths, SAARC and IRENA will work together to unlock the full potential of renewable energy in South Asia, fostering a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region.

"This partnership aligns perfectly with the vision of SAARC Member States and the global commitment to sustainable energy," said SAARC Secretary-General Md. Golam Sarwar. "By joining hands with IRENA, we can expedite the transition to clean energy systems and create a more sustainable future for the people of South Asia."
