The Ministry of Home Affairs has recalled the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sunsari, Basudev Ghimire, and several top security officials following a fatal clash between two rival groups in the district on Sunday night.
Sankhuwasabha CDO Ishwari Prasad Aryal has been appointed to replace CDO Ghimire in Sunsari, following Ghimire's recall to the ministry. Similarly, Koshi Province Police Chief DIG Binod Ghimire has been called back to the Police Headquarters in Kathmandu, while DIG Shekhar Khanal from the headquarters has been assigned to head the Koshi Province Police Office.
Similarly, Sunsari Police Chief SP Keshab Thebe has been transferred to the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. SP Pushpa Raj Malla, previously stationed at the airport, will replace Thebe as the Sunsari District Police Chief. Additionally, DSP Nandan Kishor Mahato of the Armed Police Force (APF) based in Kaptanganj has been recalled and replaced by DSP Madan Nath from the APF Headquarters in Kathmandu.
The administrative overhaul comes in the wake of violent clashes between two groups in Kaptanganj, Devanganj Rural Municipality-3, on Sunday night, which left one person dead. The skirmish also resulted in 24 injuries, comprising nine civilians, 10 Nepal Police personnel, and 5 APF personnel.
To investigate the incident, the Home Ministry has formed a five-member probe committee led by Ministry Joint Secretary Bhupendra Thapa. The committee has been mandated to submit its report within a week. Meanwhile, to prevent further escalation, the Sunsari District Administration Office has imposed an indefinite curfew starting at 7:00 am today across designated areas in Devanganj and Harinagar rural municipalities.
