One person died and 21 others sustained injuries after security personnel opened fire during clashes between two local rial groups in Devanganj, Sunsari on Sunday night.
The police opened fire while trying to bring the situation under control. The incident took place on Sunday night in Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, Kaptanganj, where firing by the Armed Police Force resulted in the death of one person, while 21 people—including police personnel and protesters—sustained injuries.
According to the Sunsari Police, 24-year-old Omprakash Mehta of Kaptanganj, Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, died from gunshot wounds. He was critically injured and rushed to Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar for treatment, where he passed away during the course of treatment, the District Police Office, Sunsari, said.
The situation turned violent when a dispute between two groups escalated into a clash. The Armed Police Force opened fire to take the situation under control.
Eight local residents sustained gunshot injuries. Mithilesh Yadav (22), Amlesh Mehta (18), Mithilesh Mehta (25), and Amit Kumar Yadav (20) are undergoing treatment at Koshi Hospital.
Similarly, Rabindra Mehta (21), Amit Kumar Yadav (18), Sunil Kumar Mehta (25), and another Sunil Kumar Mehta (26) are receiving treatment at Birat Nursing Home.
Likewise, 8 security personnel, including Police Inspector Rakesh Rai, were injured in the clash. Inspector Rai sustained serious head injuries.
Other injured personnel include Sub-Inspector Ganesh Narayan Shrestha, Senior Head Constables Amarlal Yadav, Rambahadur Rai, and Bijaya Yadav, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nawaraj Pokharel, and Constables Buddhadev Sah and Niwesh Yadav.
Five Armed Police Force Personnel sustained injuries in the clash. District Police Office Sunsari's Police Inspector Prakash Parajuli informed Nepalkhabar that one person died and 21 others were injured in the clash between the two local groups.
A huge number of police personnel have been deployed at the incident site to keep the situation under control.
