Death toll of Nepalis in Maharashtra train accident reaches 7

The death toll in the train accident that occurred in Jalgaon District, near Pardhade station on Wednesday evening, in the Indian State of Maharashtra has reached seven. With this, the total number of casualties in the train accident has reached 12.

According to a press note issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the deceased have been identified as Kamala Navin Bhandari, 43, of Kailali, Lachhiram Pasi, 40, of Kailali, Himu Nadaram Bishwakarma, 44, of Mangalsen, Achham, Maisara Kami Bishwakarma, Mangalsen, Achham, Jokla alias Kala Kami of Kamal Bazaar, Achham and Radhe Shyam, 32, of Danduwa, Banke.

Among the four injured in the accident, three Nepali nationals are undergoing treatment at a local hospital and one, who sustained critical injuries, is being treated at Godawari Hospitalin Jalgaon.

The Nepal government is coordinating with the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu for the repatriation of the dead bodies and the treatment of the injured, the Foreign Ministry said.

On Wednesday evening, a train traveling from Lucknow to Mumbai took a halt on the railway track in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. Meanwhile, a rumor spread that a train compartment was on fire, prompting passengers to run to the other side of the track, in panic.

Tragically, a second train, the Karnataka Express, traveling on the same track, struck the victims, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including seven Nepali citizens, according to the Foreign Ministry.
