Bijaya Prakash Sapkota has been elected as the chairman of the All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary), the student wing of CPN (Maoist Center).
Sapkota secured 686 votes to win the post of chairman as the counting of votes was over on Wednesday evening.
His closest rival Hemanta Rai secured 615 votes. Rai is considered close to Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma.
Similarly, another candidate vying for the post of chairman, Upadesh Kumar Yadav, received 310 votes while Sudin Paudel got 192 votes.
The vote difference between Sapkota and Rai is 71.
Roshan Thapa Magar has been elected from the Rai panel. Most of the office-bearers including Thapa Magar are from the Rai panel.
The ANNISU-R elections were held in nine provinces including seven geographical and two non-geographical last Saturday.

Sapkota, 31, who is considered close to Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', has been elected as the first chairman after the ANNISU-R adopted a provision of 32-year age-limit.
The 23rd chairman of the ANNISU-R, Sapkota had joined the student politics in 2059 BS when he was eight years old.
Born in Parbat district, he had become the district chairman in 2071 BS, central secretary in 2079 BS, and deputy general secretary in 2080 BS.
