General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa of the Nepali Congress has said that the general convention of the party will be held prior to the 2084 general elections of the country.

Talking to journalists in Chitwan on Monday, Thapa said the general conventions will be held every four years as per the provision of the party's statute.

"We are working to finalize active memberships by mid-April to conduct the general convention of the party on the stipulated time," said Thapa, "We expect cooperation from the all the party rank and file to this effect. The general convention will be held as scheduled, without utilizing the one-year extension provision."

The four-year term of the Central Working Committee of the NC will expire in December 2025, as per the party statute.

"We have planned to conduct the general conventions within four years. In case we fail to meet the schedule, there is a provision of one year term extension. We will discuss it with the President and extend the time required," General Secretary Thapa said.

"The earlier we conducted the general convention of the party, the better," Thapa said.

On a different note, General Secretary Thapa said the ordinances brought by the government will be tabled and, following deliberations, endorsed in a few days.

He further said that the social media bill proposed by the government to control social media has some flaws and will not be passed without some revisions.
