'Agreement signed with India to export 17,000 megawatt power'

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, has said an agreement has been signed with Indian government in order to export 17,000 megawatt electricity through cross-border transmission line.

Unveiling the seven edition of Urja Khabar magazine published by Energy Information Centre Pvt Ltd on Monday, Minister Khadka shared that Nepal-India secretary-level meeting made this agreement to fulfill the target of Energy Development Roadmap, 2081.

"We have signed agreement to export 17,000 megawatt electricity to India and Bangladesh through eight cross border transmission lines. This agreement is important for the development of Nepal's energy sector", he argued.

The Energy Minister mentioned that the government has been working to provide 200,000-500,000 shares in low interest rate to poor people.

He urged the private sector to invest in hydropower sector as market of the produced power has been guaranteed.

Similarly, former Minister and former Secretary Shankar Prasad Koirala shared that Urja Khabar magazine has guided the government for the development of energy sector.

Likewise, Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Suresh Acharya, mentioned that the support and cooperation of the private sector is crucial to fulfill energy development goals of Energy Development Roadmap, 2081.

Senior energy expert at the Ministry, Prabal Adhikari, shared that the book published by incorporating significant activities of energy sector is research-oriented while Chairperson of Independent Power Producers' Association Nepal, Ganesh Karki, pointed out the need of coordination between the private sector and government to achieve government's goal.
