The Embassy of India in Kathmandu has been actively coordinating with the Government of Odisha and the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) following the tragic death of Nepali student Ms. Prakriti Lamsal.
The State Government of Odisha has taken immediate action, registering criminal cases against the accused student and KIIT security personnel involved in the manhandling of students. Both have been arrested, with Odisha Police assuring an impartial investigation.
A High-Level Fact-Finding Committee, led by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, has been established to investigate the incident. KIIT has terminated two security staff and suspended several officials pending further inquiry. The Vice Chancellor of KIIT has issued a public apology and urged Nepali students to resume their studies.
To support affected students, Odisha Police has launched a 24x7 helpline (+91-8280338301). KIIT has also withdrawn its 'sine die' order and set up a dedicated control room to assist Nepali students returning to campus.
The Government of India has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Nepali students in India, promising swift and fair justice in this case.
