The Polish government has launched a major operation targeting illegal immigrants, deploying thousands of law enforcement personnel across the country. This follows a similar trend seen in the United States, where authorities have also stepped up efforts to address undocumented populations.

The Polish Police Headquarters' Criminal Investigation Bureau, in coordination with the Border Guard, mobilized a force of 26,000 police officers and 1,000 border guards. The operation involved searches at 32,136 locations, resulting in the apprehension of 204 immigrants. Of those detained, 166 have already been deported, according to a statement released by the Police Headquarters.

The nationwide operation aimed to locate and apprehend individuals wanted under arrest warrants issued by the police and courts, as well as those subject to detention center or prison warrants.

While the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Poland has not yet confirmed whether any Nepali nationals were among those arrested, they acknowledge a significant increase in the number of Nepalis receiving administrative orders to leave the country.

The NRNA points to a network of individuals operating from Poland to the UAE, using deceptive advertisements on platforms like TikTok and Facebook to lure people into the country. This has resulted in hundreds of Nepalis living in Poland without legal status. Currently, there is a noted trend of Nepalis relocating to Poland from other European countries such as Malta, Romania, Croatia, and Bulgaria.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who assumed office on December 11, 2023, has adopted a hardline stance against illegal immigration. In early February, he declared that the government would not tolerate foreign immigrant crime. "Anyone who takes advantage of our hospitality and breaks the law while visiting Poland will be expelled," he stated.

The Polish government deported 7,300 immigrants in 2023 and 8,500 in 2024.
