Dr. Sainbuyan Nergui, Khamba Lama of Sain Nomuun Buddhist Monastery of Mongolia, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Dr. Nergui, who arrived in Nepal one week ago, met with Prime Minister Oli in Kathmandu on Tuesday (February 25), Dr. Nergui told Nepalkhabar.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the Mongolian temple in Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha, and the Lumbini Buddhist Project in Mongolia. Prime Minister Oli reaffirmed Nepal's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting religious and cultural tourism with Mongolia, according to Nergui.
Furthermore, Dr. Nergui highlighted Prime Minister Oli's invitation to Mongolian religious figures, scholars, and monks to celebrate Buddha Jayanti in Nepal.
"This is a sign of the beginning of broad-based cooperation," Dr. Nergui said, expressing hope for enhanced religious and cultural relations between the two countries.
Dr. Nergui returned home today wrapping up his weeklong visit to Nepal.

Nepalkhabar briefly talked to Dr. Nergui, the abbot of the Sain Nomuun Buddhist Monastery in Mongolia, during his Nepal visit. (Excerpts)
Could you introduce the purpose of your Nepal visit?
This time, I'm a visiting professor at the Lumbini Buddhist University, focused on strengthening religious and cultural tourism between Nepal and Mongolia. Our nations share deep spiritual roots and centuries-old connections. Mongolia's 2,200-year Buddhist history, originating from Nepal, underscores our profound ties. We must actively preserve and expand these enduring historical bonds.
What is the significance of the meeting you had with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of Nepal the other day?
Yes, I met with Prime Minister Oli twice in the past and exchanged views on the promotion of religious and cultural ties between the two countries.
How was the meeting with the Prime Minister? What did he say during the meeting?
The meeting with Prime Minister Oli was productive. During the meeting, I discussed with Prime Minister about Mongolian temple in Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha and the Lumbini Buddhist Project in Mongolia. The Prime minister said that the Nepal government attaches high importance to bilateral relations with Mongolia and is willing to partner in promoting religious and cultural tourism.
I was very pleased that on this year's Buddha Jayanti, the Prime Minister officially invited Mongolian religious and cultural figures, scholars, and monks to Nepal to celebrate Buddha's birthday together. I think this is a sign of the beginning of a broad-based cooperation between the two countries. I hope our religious and cultural relationship develops further in the near future.
