A training program for regional presidents of the Nepali Congress is underway in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi. The two-day event, organized by the party's Central Policy, Research, and Training Institute led by Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, commenced today.
Vice President Khadka stated that the training will involve 330 participants, including regional presidents nationwide, presidents of House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly constituencies, and heads of training departments. Additionally, parliamentarians and ministers from Lumbini Province, along with district presidents, are also participating.
The inauguration ceremony features prominent party figures, including President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President and head of the Central Policy, Research, and Training Institute Purna Bahadur Khadka, General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, former General Secretaries, and leaders Krishna Sitaula, Bimalendra Nidhi, Balkrishna Khand, and Ramesh Lekhak.
This training follows a similar program held in Pokhara, Kaski, on February 4-5, which included presidents, vice presidents and training department heads from all 77 districts. Notably, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a leader of a faction within the Congress, was not invited to the Pokhara event, sparking criticism of the party leadership.
This time, however, Dr. Koirala and other leaders have been invited. However Dr Koirala is unable to attend due to pre-scheduled events.
According to Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya, an aide to Koirala, a staff member from the party's central office extended an invitation via telephone four days prior to the event. However, Koirala has prior commitments, including attending the inauguration of the Birat Gold Cup in Biratnagar today and other programs scheduled for tomorrow in the same city. Therefore he will not be attending the Bhairahawa orientation program.
