Nearly three years ago, the finale of 'Mr and Miss National' was taking place. It was the question-and-answer round.
Contestant Sama Parajuli was asked a question by Judge Ivana Lohar, "If you were to enter Nepali cinema, what kind of role would you play and why?"
Sama replied, "It's my dream to be seen in Nepali films. You will definitely see me in a Nepali film one day. And I will play the role of a bold and brave female character."
Sama succeeded in winning the title of Miss Supranational Nepal 2023.
As the saying goes, "You achieve anything you set your mind to," Sama's dream has come true. Sama is debuting in a Nepali film with 'Hostel 3,' which is set to hit screens on March 7. Sama is playing a bold character in her very first film.
Sama, born in Pokhara, had a keen interest in dance from a young age. She used to learn dance while in school. One day, her dance teacher took them to the shooting of the film 'A Mero Hajur 2', where Sama got the opportunity to work as a background dancer. Sama says that's when her interest developed in the film industry.
"While seeing Samragyee RL Shah and Salon Basnet dance on screens, I wished I would get the opportunity to dance like them. That was another factor to attract me to the film industry," she shared.
Sama, who lived with her grandmother, went to Germany to be with her parents after completing her Plus 2. She joined a dental nurse course in Germany.
Even while living in Germany, Sama's passion to act in Nepali films did not die down. To prepare for this, she took theater classes and even did modeling. She used to apply for online auditions and message producers and directors when she saw posters of new films. An international model, Sama also won the title of Miss Globe Germany 2022.
Meanwhile, around 2023, Sama applied for the audition of 'Mr and Miss National'. After being selected, she came to Nepal to take part in the event. After going through various stages, she succeeded in becoming Miss Supranational Nepal.
After becoming Miss Supranational, Sama stole the limelight and began to grab the attention of filmmakers. She started receiving film offers.
"After becoming Miss Supranational Nepal, I received many film offers. However, it's difficult to manage time since I live in Germany," she said. "I was hesitant at first when I got the offer for 'Hostel 3'. Then, after a week or two, I accepted it due to its script."
In the film, Sama is paired with Ashish Ghimire, the son of famous artist Kedar Ghimire (Magne Budha). "I was scared when I was told I'd be Ashish's partner as he has already acted as Dhundhukari. But after meeting him, I felt very comfortable due to his amiable, frank and cooperative nature," she said.
She says the other actors are also very good. As it's her debut film, she says everyone learned from each other while working. Especially, she says she learned a lot from theater artist Hena Nagarkoti.
Sama is thrilled with the reactions to the film's songs and trailer. She says she is both excited and nervous about the film, which is on the verge of release.
Sama said, "I was scared at first, wondering what kind of reactions would come. We had worked very hard. Hence, we had a mixed feeling of fear and confidence. The audience has already liked the songs and trailer. I'm excited as it's my debut film, but I'm also a little nervous about how it will turn out."
Despite being a dental nurse, Sama is determined to work in the Nepali film industry as long as she gets opportunities.
