A Bangladeshi court has ordered the seizure of assets and the freezing of bank accounts belonging to Sheikh Hasina, the deposed Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and her immediate family, including her children and sister, Indian media outlets reported.
The order mandates the confiscation of assets belonging to Hasina and other several relatives, including her sons. The former Prime Minister Hasina is currently seeking refuge in India.
The Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of Hasina's Dhanmondi residence, "Sudhasadan," and freezing of 124 bank accounts linked to her family, an official told the news agency ANI.
Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court issued the order on Tuesday. The court's action against Hasina and her relatives follows a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court has also ordered the seizure of assets belonging to her son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and her daughters Tulip Siddiqui and Radwan Mujib Siddique.
Last year, on August 5, a student-led movement ousted Bangladesh's Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, forcing to relinquish her 15-yer rule, after weeks of protests and clashes that killed over 600 people.
Hasina, 77, fled to India, and an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus was formed.
