Two people died after a bus collided with their motorcycle along the Postal Highway in Shuddodhan Rural Municipality–6, Bimiya, Kapilvastu district on Saturday night.
The collision occurred when a passenger bus (Bhe 1 Kha 4552), operated by Madhya Paschim Janasewa Yatayat and traveling from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu, struck an oncoming Super Splendor motorcycle (Lu Pra 01-004 Pa 3856) coming from the opposite direction. Both riders sustained critical injuries in the impact.
Following the accident, a seven-member police team led by a Senior Sub-Inspector from the Pakadi Area Police Office rushed to the incident site. The injured victims were immediately rescued and rushed to the District Hospital in Taulihawa, Kapilvastu, for medical treatment. However, doctors pronounced both victims dead during treatment at 1:50 am on Sunday.
The identities of the deceased remain unverified, and their bodies have been kept at the District Hospital mortuary in Taulihawa for identification and post-mortem examinations.
The District Police Office of Kapilvastu has impounded both vehicles and arrested the bus co-driver, 21-year-old Sunil Rana, a resident of Khairagar, Bangad Kupinde Municipality-5, Salyan district. Meanwhile, the primary bus driver, 28-year-old Shyam Kumar Kami, a resident of Kharigaira, Gurbhakot Municipality-2, Surkhet district, has been detained separately by police in neighboring Rupendehi district.
Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the fatal crash.
