PM Oli calls for Egyptian President's help to get Bipin Joshi released

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil and urged him to take necessary steps for the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who has been held hostage by Hamas.

In a telephone call this evening, Prime Minister Oli urged President Abdel to play a role in the safe and speedy release of Joshi, a student who was in Israel under the 'Learn and Earn' program. In response, President Abdel said that his efforts towards that end would continue.

The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the efforts to prioritize the name of Joshi, who was held hostage by Hamas on October 7, 2023, during the attack on Israel, in the list of abductees to be released in the second round between Hamas and Israel.

Prime Minister Oli noted that Nepal has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and that the role played by Egypt in this process is important. The Prime Minister said that Nepal has always been in favor of world peace and also expressed gratitude to the governments of Qatar and the United States for their role in this humanitarian cause.

Invitation for Sagarmatha Dialogue
During the conversation, Prime Minister Oli also invited President Khalil for the Sagarmatha Dialogue to be held in Kathmandu from coming May 16 to 18.

As the host country of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-27), Prime Minister Oli urged for joint cooperation between Egypt and Nepal on the issues related to climate change.

Various aspects of candidacy at United Nations forums, mutual cooperation, exchange of high-level visits, and expansion of mutual relations between the two countries were discussed on the occasion.
