450 int'l leaders invited as Sagarmatha Sambaad inches closer

150 to 175 foreign leaders may attend the event

Heads of government and heads of states from across the globe are participating in the Sagarmatha Sambaad 2025, the government said.

Speaking at a press meeting on Sunday, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai informed that invitations have been sent to 450 individuals.

"Invitations have been sent to 450 foreign heads of governments and heads of states. But we are not sure how many of them will participate in the Sambaad," said Foreign Secretary Rai, "Around 150-175 foreign leaders are expected to attend the Sambaad."

The Sagarmatha Sambaad will be held in Kathmandu for three days from March 16 to 18.

The invitations will be sent to the heads of government and heads of states through the Nepali embassies in the concerned countries and their embassies based in Nepal.

The three-day event will be focused on protecting Nepali mountains and the existing risks, Maheshwar Dhakal, the member secretary at the Sagarmatha Sambaad Secretariat, told Nepalkhabar.

Prime Minister KP Sharrma Oli on January 21 had announced this international dialogue on the occasion of International Year of Glaciers, 2025.

First day
The leaders will discuss what immediate steps can be taken for protecting mountains. On the same day, discussions will take place on how to connect islands with the high hilly regions of the country. Similarly, issues such as food security, agricultural resilience, and promotional activities undertaken by communities in the highlands will also be discussed.

Second day
The discussions will be held on climate induced disasters including risk reduction and resilience. Similarly, the discussion will range from monitoring at-risk mountains to the efforts undertaken to reduce climate risks, and their successes.

 
Third day
This is the concluding day. The attending guests will be flown to the Sagarmatha region where they will inspect at-risk mountains.
