The controversy regarding the old Nepali film ‘Kusume Rumal’ has resurfaced.
Music composer Ranjit Gazmer accused film exhibitor and producer Uddhav Poudel of fraud.
Unveiling his autobiography "Mohani Madalko" on Monday, Gazmer wrote in the book that he had been deceived by Poudel.
Gazmer's book flared up a dispute -- resolved 25 years ago -- surrounding the film again. Then the dispute involving Producers Association had reached the Supreme Court.
Tulsi Ghimire-directed 'Kusume Rumal' was the first successful film in the Nepali film industry to celebrate its silver jubilee. It featured Bhuvan KC, Tripti Nadkar, and singer Udit Narayan Jha in lead roles.
In his autobiography, Gazmer writes, "We sent Poudel to Nepal handing over the first print of ‘Kusume Rumal’ with great trust. However, upon arriving in Nepal, Poudel registered the film under his banner."
The movie opened to great fanfare, different locations even celebrated the silver jubilee and "100" days.
Gazmer claimed in the book that Poudel used the profits from ‘Kusume Rumal’ to build a cinema hall but did not pay him even a penny from the profits. He writes that Poudel turned against him and stopped all kinds of communication with him after owning the movie.
Poudel, on his part, said he doesn't know why things pertaining to the dispute was written again since the dispute had been resolved long ago with the involvement of Producers Association and the Supreme Court. He added, "All sides had compromised on this issue."
The former Producers' Association general secretary Ashok Sharma said the matter had been long closed with the involvement of both parties.
Sharma said, "An agreement had been reached vowing not to speak, write, or blame each other on the matter by both sides."
Sharma added fiscal transaction also had taken place between Poudel and Gazmer over the issue.
