The government has initiated discussions to advance the land-related ordinance yet again. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday held discussions with top leaders of the ruling coalition at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar regarding this matter.
Upendra Yadav, chairperson of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSP-Nepal), who has been dissatisfied with the land ordinance, skipped today’s meeting as he was outside Kathmandu.
Leaders will hold further discussions on Wednesday, according to Labor Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari, a senior leader of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP).
Earlier, the government had withheld the land ordinance after JSP-N and the LSP, led by Mahantha Thakur, refused to support it in its current form.
Today’s meeting dwelled on how to move forward with the ordinance, including necessary amendments. Prime Minister Oli sought suggestions from coalition partners on possible amendments to address concerns during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML Senior Vice Chair Ishwar Pokharel, JSP Chair Ashok Rai, Janamat Party Chair CK Raut, Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha, and Democratic Socialist Party Chair Mahantha Thakur.
Earlier, the government had presented five ordinances in Parliament, putting aside the land-related one, which were later approved by the House of Representatives and are now under consideration in the National Assembly.
Another round of talks has been scheduled for Wednesday at 11 AM, with Yadav expected to join.
