The government has removed Kulman Ghising from his position as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), citing 10 charges in a letter issued by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Monday evening. The charges include:
- Failure to submit performance evaluation reports on time.
- Signing power exchange agreements with India without government or board approval.
- Attending negotiations in India without proper authorization.
- Making false claims about obtaining approval from the minister and secretary for power purchase deals.
- Ignoring government directives on electricity tariff collection.
- Traveling without board approval, violating regulations.
- Misusing position by leaking his defense to media before official submission.
- Obstructing board decisions and causing inefficiency in NEA operations.
- Encouraging employee factionalism, harming NEA’s performance.
- Repeatedly making statements against the government and parliament in the media.
The letter states that his clarifications were unsatisfactory, leading to his dismissal under the NEA’s regulations.
