In the current fiscal year, Nepal imported goods worth NPR 2 billion 969 million 152 thousand from Bangladesh over eight months, while exports to Bangladesh amounted to only NPR 276 million 854 thousand.
According to Subas Pandey, Chief of Nepal Transit and Warehousing Company Limited (NTWCL) based in Kakadvitta, the highest import from Bangladesh was raw jute, worth NPR 1.6 billion.
Other imported items include batteries, poultry feed supplements, cosmetic items, hydrogen peroxide, jute yarn, electrical appliances, medicines, potatoes, paper, glass, and food and beverage products.
Meanwhile, exports from Kakadvitta amounted to NPR 236 million 258 thousand. During the review period, herbs, household goods, and animal feed were also exported to Bangladesh.
Expressing concern over the failure to maintain a trade balance between the two countries, Chief Pandey mentioned that the deficit could be reduced by exporting electricity.
