Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will address Parliament on Monday regarding Kulman Ghising’s dismissal as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Speaker Devraj Ghimire held talks with chief whips of major parties on Sunday, reaching an agreement on the matter, said UML chief whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula. The ruling party urged the opposition to end the House obstruction, but opposition leaders insisted they would not allow proceedings until Oli clarifies the valid reason of the removal.
The government replaced Ghising with Hitendra Dev Shakya on March 24, triggering protests and backlashes. Opposition parties argue that Ghising was unfairly removed despite having four months left in his term. Both Ghising and Shakya have filed petitions in the Supreme Court over the issue, but hearings were postponed for Monday.
Speaker Ghimire also called for parliamentary discussions on the recent Tinkune violence, dubbing it an attack on democracy.
