Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has hinted that India could not arrange a meeting for him with PM Narendra Modi during his Thailand visit starting tomorrow.
Addressing the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), Oli noted that despite Nepal’s prioritization of talks with Modi, India had not confirmed a talks schedule by Monday morning.
Oli cited time constraints, as most leaders will arrive in Bangkok by April 3. However, sideline meetings with other leaders have been planned.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India confirmed Modi’s arrival on April 2. This marks Nepal’s first prime minister-level visit to Thailand in 65 years of diplomatic ties.
During the visit, Oli will hold bilateral talks with Thailand’s Prime Minister, sign two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on tourism and culture, and witness six NGO agreements. He will also meet Thai business leaders, deliver speech at the Asian Institute of Technology, and attend the BIMSTEC summit and a maritime transport agreement signing.
The visit concludes with a reception to be hosted by Nepali Embassy on April 3. India’s Ambassador will attend, but Modi will depart for Sri Lanka beforehand.
