The budget session of both houses of the federal parliament is starting today. The Parliament Secretariat has informed that the session will begin at 1 PM this afternoon at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar. The winter session of parliament had concluded earlier on March 31.
At the beginning of today's session, top leaders, including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, are set to deliver their addresses. The Prime Minister will speak in the House of Representatives on contemporary issues.
This time, the government had recommended convening the budget session a week earlier than usual to address the demands of the teachers' protest movement.
The government is under pressure to pass the School Education Bill and the Federal Civil Service Bill during this session.
Teachers have been protesting for the past 23 days, demanding, among other things, the immediate enactment of the Education Bill. Similarly, civil servants have also been pressuring the government to swiftly pass the Civil Service Bill.
As per constitutional provisions, the Finance Minister will present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year on May 29 (Jestha 15).
On May 2, the government's policies and programs will be presented in parliament, and 'pre-budget' discussions are scheduled to begin from May 11. Legal provisions require pre-budget discussions to be held 15 days before the budget presentation.
More than 20 bills are currently under consideration in both houses of the federal parliament. During the previous session, nine bills were passed.
