Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, are returning to Nepal today.
The couple had traveled to Thailand on April 20 along with other family members. According to chief secretary of the Central Party Office of the Nepali Congress, Krishna Prasad Paudel, they are scheduled to arrive at 12 PM today.
While Deuba went to Thailand for medical treatment, Foreign Minister Rana attended the 81st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
Their return comes at a time when rumor about a possible government reshuffle has intensified, with some leaders from both the ruling NC and the main opposition, Maoist Center, actively involved.
Some speculate that Deuba's visit to Thailand was politically motivated, possibly to prepare for a change in the current political course. However, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has maintained that Deuba traveled solely for medical reasons.
Meanwhile, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" has stated that efforts to restructure the government will begin after Deuba's return. He has also expressed readiness to support a government led by Deuba.
