A contempt of court case filed against Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa is scheduled for hearing today.
A joint bench of Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justice Nitya Nanda Pandey is hearing the case, the Supreme Court said.
Advocates Ananta Raj Luitel, Avima Upreti and Bishal Thapa lodged a contempt of court petition against Thapa. Expressing his views in a dialogue program on the Democracy Day (last Thursday), General Secretary Thapa said, "The Supreme Court is handling the case, but keeps threatening, "I will strike, I will strike."
The case was registered on Sunday seeking action against Thapa arguing that his expressing was against the dignity, impartiality and belief of the independent judiciary.
Thapa claimed that the apex court was dealing with the appointment of officials to the constitutional bodies. "The honorable court has been dillydallying with the case of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority for two to three years. It raises questions on the credibility of the court," said Thapa.
