Medical Education Reform Campaigner Dr Govinda KC has urged the government not to increase the seats of MBBS.
Dr KC, who is currently in Myanmar for the treatment of earthquake victims, urged the government not to increase the seats of MBBS, and warned that he would go on hunger strike if the seats were increased after he returns to Nepal.
"My attention has seriously been drawn toward the news regarding the government's decision to increase the number of MBBS seats from 100 to 150," said medical education activist KC, "I will go on hunger strike if the decision were not withdrawn right away."
KC has asked the government not to increase even a single seat from the current ceiling of 100 seats but to address the demands of the resident docs who are being exploited by the private medical colleges and implement the past agreements.
A meeting of the Medical Education Commission on April 28 decided that the number of MBBS seats and its fee structure could be increased.
