The Nepali Embassy in New Delhi has taken the diplomatic initiative regarding the death of a Nepali student Prisa Sah from Birgunj, who was studying B.Tech in Computer Science (first year) at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India.
In a press release issued on Friday, the embassy stated that it is in continuous contact and coordination with the Chief Minister's Office of Odisha and other Indian authorities regarding the incident.
Similarly, representatives from the college were summoned to the Office of the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi this morning as part of collecting information about the incident.
The press note stated that the Embassy was informed about the incident only on Thursday night, after the Nepali student was found hanging in her hostel room.
Similarly, the Embassy remains in constant contact with the family of deceased, according to the press note.
Preliminary investigations suggest suicide, though the exact reasons remain unclear. Police are currently probing the case. This is the second incident of a Nepali student in less than three months in the Indian college.
This tragic incident follows the suicide of another 20-year-old Nepali computer science student in February, who took her own life after allegedly being blackmailed by a classmate.
The case had sparked outrage when faculty members were accused of making racially insensitive remarks against Nepali students.
