A helicopter carrying pilgrims crashed in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India on Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of six people, while one person sustained injuries.
According to The Times of India, the helicopter, which was carrying Char Dham pilgrims, crashed near the Ganga River on the Gangotri route in Uttarkashi district.
The pilot, Captain Robin Singh, also died in the crash. The injured pilgrim has been airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for treatment. The helicopter was being operated by Aerotrans Services Pvt. Ltd.
Among the four deceased, two were residents of Mumbai while the two others were from Andhra Pradesh.
The ill-fated helicopter (VT-QXF) of Aerotrans Services Pvt Ltd took off from Sahastradhara in Dehradun and dropped off a group of passengers at the Kharsali helipad.
Sometime later, the helicopter took off from Kharsali with a new group of passengers was heading toward the Harshil helipad. Unfortunately, the ill-fated helicopter crashed near the Ganganani Nagraj Temple around 8:40 AM.
Authorities have stated that the exact cause of the crash is not yet known.
The crash site is located in a gorge about 200-250 meters below a hill near the village.
