The United States has called on India and Pakistan to refrain from military aggression and seek peaceful solutions to their disputes. The appeal was made by US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce during a press briefing on Thursday.
"America’s message is clear: violence, military action, and war must stop," Bruce stated. "The Middle East has already proven that war does not yield solutions. Conflict, armies, and violence are not the answer. Fresh thinking and diplomacy are the only way to end the cycle of violence that has persisted for generations."
When asked about US mediation between the two South Asian nations, Bruce declined to confirm or deny any involvement but emphasized Washington’s policy of discretion. "When leaders of concerned countries are engaged in talks—whether diplomatic or at any level—we do not share those details publicly. We believe private discussions should remain private unless disclosed by the parties themselves," she explained.
The spokesperson also revealed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had held separate phone conversations with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging both leaders to de-escalate tensions and halt violence. Rubio reportedly stressed the importance of direct dialogue to resolve disputes.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors, though neither India nor Pakistan has publicly commented on the US appeal.
