The Supreme Court of Nepal has paved the way for the team led by Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, the newly elected president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), to execute its works.

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to issue an interim order in the writ petition filed by Badri KC, demanding that Shrestha's team be barred from working.

KC in the writ had argued that his tenure still had five months remaining and had sought an interim order to prevent Shrestha from carrying out any official activities until then.

However, the bench of Supreme Court Justice Sharanga Subedi did not issue the interim order as requested and instead issued only a show-cause order. With this, Shrestha's team can now continue its work.

The Supreme Court's decision came after Shrestha was unanimously elected as president from the NRNA's Unity General Convention.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which had earlier granted legitimacy to Shrestha's team, also withdrew its request for an additional six months to hold the Unity General Convention.

Earlier, KC had filed petitions in both the High Court and the Supreme Court demanding a halt to the Unity General Convention. However, after both courts rejected his requests, the Convention proceeded, leading to the formation of new leadership.

KC claims that he was elected president through the Association's 11th General Convention. However, the dispute that began during the Convention has yet to be resolved. The KC faction had also boycotted the Unity General Convention.
