The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) has revealed financial discrepancies worth Rs 91.6 billion during its audits of federal, provincial, and local government bodies, as well as committees and organized institutions in the last fiscal year. The audits covered transactions totaling Rs 9.462 trillion.
At the federal level, examinations of 3,093 government offices, involving Rs 3.116 trillion, detected irregularities of Rs 47.74 billion, accounting for 1.54% of the audited amount. Provincial audits of 1,165 offices, covering Rs 3.86 trillion, found Rs 4.20 billion in misappropriation, or 1.36% of the total. Meanwhile, local- the audited sum.
Additionally, audits of 695 committees and institutions, involving Rs 522.13 billion, exposed Rs 14.33 billion in discrepancies.
The OAG also reviewed 43 organized institutions with transactions worth Rs 4.407.
The report highlighted unresolved irregularities amounting to Rs 733.19 billion, including pending revenue dues of Rs 472.35 billion, unsettled foreign grants worth Rs 669.86 billion, and overdue foreign loans totaling Rs 14.33 billion.
The OAG recovered Rs 14.48 billion this year but emphasized the need for stricter enforcement to address the remaining financial discrepancies. Authorities have been urged to take prompt action to resolve the pending cases.
