Thapa to head TRC; Gadtaula takes charge of CIEDP

The Government has formed the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.

The Cabinet meeting held this evening decided to appoint the Chairperson and Members of both the Commissions as per the recommendations of the Recommendation Committee formed under the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Act, 2071 BS, said Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung.

Mahesh Thapa (Shankhuwasabha) has been appointed the Chairperson of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission with Achyut Prasad Bhandari (Jajarkot), Dr Tika Prasad Dhakal (Panchthar), Padam Bahadur Shahi (Jumla) and Kumari Kaushalya Ojha (Kanchanpur) as its members.

Similarly, the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons has been constituted with Lila Devi Gadtaula (Tehrathum) as the Chair and Gopalnath Yogi (Salyan), Agni Prasad Thapaliya (Jhapa), Srijana Pokharel (Kathmandu) and Binita Nepali (Kaski) as members.

The office-bearers of the newly constituted transitional justice mechanism have been appointed for a four-year term with remuneration and perks equivalent to those of the office-bearers of the National Human Rights Commission.

Meanwhile, the government has reconstituted the Committee formed to recommend names for appointment of the next Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.

The re-constituted committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel includes as members former Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari and economist Dr Poshraj Pandey. (RSS
