The government has appointed economist Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). Minister for Agriculture Ramnath Adhikari informed that the meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Baluwatar on Tuesday evening appointed Poudel as the Governor. He has become the 18th Governor of the central bank of Nepal.
Earlier today, a meeting of the Governor Recommendation Committee convened at the Ministry of Finance had recommended economist Poudel, along with acting Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr. Neelam Dhungana and former Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai.
In fact, Poudel's appointment as Governor was already fixed. There had been prior agreement between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli to appoint Paudel as the next Governor.
The two leaders on Tuesday held discussions, followed by the committee meeting. Immediately after the recommendation, the Council of Ministers finalized the appointment of the Governor today.
