Six members of the same family ascend Mt Makalu

Six members of a family from Makalu rural municipality-2 in Sankhuwasabha climbed atop Mt Makalu, vying to clinch a new record in the fifth highest mountain in the world.

According to Muktu Lakpa Sherpa, one of the six members' expedition team, Dingma Ongju Sherpa's four sons, a daughter and a grandson set their feet atop the 8,485-meter mountain on May 9.

The climbers who made it to Mt Makalu together are Muktu Sherpa, his brothers Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, Ang Di Sherpa and Pechhumbe Sherpa, his sister Pasang Sherpa and his grandson Anima Sherpa.

Muktu claimed that his family has set a new record for being the most siblings to climb Mt Makalu.

Pasang Sherpa added that her 23-year-old niece Anima is supposedly the youngest person to climb Mt Makalu.

The climbers along with their families have been congratulated by the rural municipality, Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Sankhuwasabha district and Sherpa Association for this astounding feat.
