Kunjang, first Nepal Police female Everest climber, receives hero's welcome at TIA (photos)

Mountaineer Kunjang Chopel Sherpa, who managed to become the first Nepal Police female to scale Mount Everest, has arrived in Kathmandu after completing her mission.

Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kunjang was greeted with floral tributes amidst roaring bands and lively cheers.

Central Nepal Police Spokesperson Ramesh Thapa, SP Basudha Khadka, Senior Sub Inspector Purushottam Nepali, the first Nepal Police Male Everest climber, among others, had reached TIA to receive Kunjang.

Kunjang was escorted up to her residence amidst resonance of musical bands and lively rallies.

A meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa on Wednesday had decided to promote her to the post of Sub Inspector.

Sherpa successfully ascended Mount Everest, the highest peak of the world, on Monday at 8:56 AM.

IGP Thapa had handed over a Nepali flag to Kunjang on April 7, wishing her success. The mountaineering team led by Kunjang had left Kathmandu for the mission on April 10.
