Ruling Nepali Congress has concluded that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak is not obligated to resign from his post in the visit visa scam.
An office-bearers' meeting held in Budhanilkantha this morning took a decision to this effect at a time when voices are being raised from within the party seeking resignation of the Home Minister over his alleged involvement in the visit visa scam.
Following the meeting, an office-bearer said, "The allegation leveled against the Home Minister is ill-intended. He is not compelled to tender his resignation based on this accusation."
NC has also dubbed it as a politically motivated publicity intentionally designed to cast slur on Home Minister Lekhak.
"The office-bearers' meeting decided in favor of Home Minister Lekhak stating that the latter should not need to tender his resignation on the basis of accusation, a leader privy to the meeting told Nepalkhabar, "We will, however, cooperate in the investigation carried out by the concerned body. Lekhak is not involved in this case."
He further said that the Home Minister is not obligated to resign over embezzlements committed by his employees within his ministry. "Many staffers under the Health Ministry are under the scanner of anti-graft body, currently. There might be such staffers under other ministries including the Prime Minister's secretariat," said he.
Home Minister Lekhak has allegedly been protecting racketeers involved in sending Nepali youths abroad on visit visas and making a quick buck this illegal act.
