Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has held a meeting with American Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson on Wednesday.
In the meeting held at the Energy Ministry, the two leaders discussed various issues of bilateral relations ranging from energy cooperation to implementation of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), according to the ministry.
During the meeting, Energy Minister stated that a pause on the implementation of the MCC project is creating confusions among the Nepali people, currently. Khadka expressed belief that the MCC project will move forward and America will lend support to Nepal in the energy sector.
In response, Ambassador Thompson assured that America will continue its support and cooperation in the energy sector of Nepal. He further said that America is making every effort to ensure smooth implementation of the MCC.
America and Nepal had reached an agreement, according to which America would spend US$ 500 million and Nepal would spend US $197 for the implementation of the MCA projects.
Under this project, a 400-kV transmission line stretching from Lapiphedi-Ratmate to Ratmate-Damauli, and Damauli-Butwal to Butwal-Nepal-India border (Gorakhpur) and concerened substations will be built.
Representatives of MCC and MCA and the high-ranking officials of the Ministry were present during the meeting.
