Expenditure of current FY budget to be at 89%; revenue to increase by 17%

The government has revised its estimate that only 89.4 percent of the total budget brought in the current fiscal year (FY) will be spent.

According to Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, the revised estimate indicates that 89.04 percent of the total allocation, amounting to NPR 1,662.37 billion, will be spent.

Finance Minister Paudel mentioned that the revised estimate shows that current expenditure will reach 88.05 percent of the appropriation, capital expenditure will reach 83.04 percent, and financial management expenditure will reach 97.06 percent. In FY 2081/82, revenue operations are estimated to increase by 17.01 percent, reaching NPR 1,267.39 billion.

The revised estimate indicates that foreign aid grants of NPR 34.89 billion and loans of NPR 169.60 billion will be mobilized. Although the internal borrowing for the current fiscal year was estimated at NPR 330 billion, NPR 360 billion was mobilized by the end of mid-April (Baisakh).

Former Finance Minister Barshman Pun had presented a total budget of NPR 1,860.30 billion for the current fiscal year.
