Koshi Highway has been blocked due to erosion, landslides and fallen trees in various places due to heavy rainfall on Saturday morning.

With the onset of monsoon, heavy rainfall began in Koshi Province, leading to road closures in many sections of the Koshi Highway.

The Provincial Police Office in Biratnagar reported that the highway has been blocked due to landslides, floods, and fallen trees caused by the heavy rainfall that has been ongoing since last night.

On the road from Dharan to Bhedetar under the Koshi Highway, traffic has been obstructed due to fallen trees. Although efforts are underway to remove the trees, the Leuti River in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality has eroded and washed away the road.

The police stated that the road has been completely damaged due to the flood. As a result of the road blockage, the Dharan-Dhankuta road section has been obstructed.

The District Police Office, Dhankuta stated that efforts are being made to reopen the road.

The flash flood in the Leuti River near Phedi area along the Koshi Highway in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality-6 of Dhankuta washed away more than 100 meters of the road around 6 AM today, according to the police.

After the road was washed away, traffic in the area has been blocked in both directions.

Following the landslides, a team led by Police Inspector Ramesh Pradhan from Bhedetar and a Nepali Army team have been mobilized in the area, as informed by the District Police Office, Dhankuta.

Efforts are currently underway to clear the blocked roads, the police said.
