An Indian citizen has been arrested with gold worth over Rs 4.5 million at Nagdhunga checkpoint in Kathmandu.
He was apprehended during a security check of a passenger bus (Ba. Province 03-001-Kha 3139) coming to Kathmandu from Kakadvitta, Jhapa, Kathmandu Police Spokesperson SP Apil Raj Bohorat told Nepalkhabar.
A joint team from the Nagdhunga Police Sector and the Narcotics Control Bureau conducted the search on the bus. The arrested Indian national, 31-year-old Mahadev Samant, was found in possession of 274.83 grams of gold. He has been sent to the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office, Gauchar, for further investigation and action.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association, the value of the seized gold, according to the current market price, is Rs 4,563,826.
